I had planned on doing "Angie" yesterday but my C&J&Staring at Maiko's butt session ran long and I didn't have time, so I bumped it to today. My brother got 19min and change, Big Lou got 21:15, I found out just before I attempted that Dan, the dude that I did the WOD "Daniel" with the other day (and beat him by 4 seconds, mind you), got 14:30 something. I was shooting for certainly under 20min, more likely around 15min. I figured if I could maintain a 4 minute pace per exercise, I would be fine considering squats would not take me 4 minutes. It sounded good, that was until my kryptonite slowed me down.....
WOD:
"Angie"
100 pull ups
100 push ups
100 sit ups
100 squats
My mindset going into this WOD was "alright, I can bang out pull ups, sit ups and squats no problem, push ups on the other hand, for some reason, are my kryptonite." I don't know why it is, but I am a below average push up...per... Yes, I go chest-to-floor and many non Crossfitters claim to be strong at push ups when they only go to a 90D angle with their arms. But, my ranking with people who go chest-to-floor, sucks. I can't figure it out, I used to be a pretty strong bench presser guy, and I can ring dip forever, but something with push ups kills me, see for yourself.
100 pull ups: 4:40
100 push ups: 9:40
100 sit ups: 3:40
100 squats: 2:04
Total: 20:04 (PR)
Ridiculous right? If only I could have shaved off some time. My brother made a good point, Maybe my problem is that I am trying to push the earth away from me instead of pushing myself up from the earth. I think, 170lbs of my 190lb body is in my over sized head, making every push up more difficult than humans who have their weight evenly distributed. Whatever the reason, it blows, I blow, that time blows and if you will excuse me, I am going to go blow my nose.
I remember you saying you were weak with push-ups but I didn't realize to what degree. You look like someone who'd do well with most bodyweight workouts, AND you're a dude. What gave out? Shoulders?
ReplyDeleteI dunno whats wrong with me. It might be technique. I usually do about 25 in a row and then I cant get more than three. I don't know what gives out, everything. I am going to change my form up a bit. I am sure all the time off due to my shoulder injury didn't help but regardless, it was pathetic.
ReplyDeleteDamn...25? I've done at least 30 in a row once although I don't think it was chest-to-deck. Either way, I just questioned your manhood! bwahahahah~
ReplyDeleteOk, maybe you shouldn't go to failure at least in the first set/round. Maybe do 18~20 and then rest at least until you get your push-up numbers up? And Maybe you just need to incorporate them more in your routine to get your numbers up. Grease the Groove! When I got all those push-ups I was doing ~100 of them for our warm-up in Krav (10 reps of 10 different push-up variations, superman push-ups suck the hardest). Not suggesting you do 100 every day of course, but do them and mix it up from time to time. Also, ever tried them on the rings? I wouldn't do it with your shoulder recovering but they were awful when I first started at CFDC!
alright, I never said 25 was to failure homes. I used to be able to bang out 50 in a row, when I had a chest. Can I have my manhood back now?
ReplyDeleteI guess I could start adding some into my daily routine. It wouldn't hurt to improve. I have tried ring push ups but not in a long time!
SO I gave Angie a shot and did poorly, but I got the push-ups done in 8 minutes flat ;P
ReplyDeletePull-ups: 13:13 (first 66 kipping, rest jumping cuz five blisters were going to burst on my hands and it was difficult to stay on the bar at that point)
Push-ups: 8:00
Sit-ups: 4:06
Squats: 3:53
Total: 29:22
I'm so terrible at high-rep, bodyweight stuff. :( But the pull-ups killed me, I was having more issues with the bar and my hands than anything else!
Mines was like this:
ReplyDeletePullups (All Kipping)
25-15-10-10-8-8-8-8-6-2 9ish min
Pushups (Chest to Ground)
40-15-10-10-10-10-5 6ish min
Situps (Anchored Legs, Hands on Dome)
75-25 2:30ish
Air Squats (Keep in Mind did Hack day Before)
25-25-25-15-10 4ish min
Usually I can go Pushups like 60-25-15 but my chest and arms were saturated with blood and I was working against myself b/c I got so tight.
Was pleased with the kips.
Props all around.
Way to go both of you! Note to self: work on push ups.....a girl beat you.
ReplyDeleteMaiko, I am glad you did Angie! YAY for Met-cons!!! You did great! Which pull up bar did you use?
Lou you are the man, your push ups and sit ups are mad thorough, I am envious.
I don't know what I prefer, being a G at pull ups or an F at push ups???
i was on the squat rack closest to the door. that one never gave me grief before so I was a little bummed :( Push-ups were definitely the hardest though! Gotta get back to doing them more regularly!
ReplyDeleteyo kid, i'm really impressed by the pullups. the way you feel on push i feel on pull now. as lou said, 'saturation' yo. my shit just tenses up on the strict. my advice to get better at pushups is pick a day or two a week where you do 200 pushups; go to failure on every set and don't give yourself any breaks (5-10 sec tops). i'm not sure why it works but when i have a couple sessions like that my reps on the next session sky rocket (they go up by the 20s no joke). i gotta time my angie.
